The Applied Coastal Ecology (ACE) program prepares students for professional roles in managing coastal natural resources, restoring ecosystems, conducting environmental assessments, and various related fields. ACE combines core studies in subjects like biology, geography, chemistry, and oceanography with practical training in salmon and shellfish conservation, stream rehabilitation, rainforest ecosystems, wildlife conservation, and other specialized areas.
Students in the ACE program acquire essential technical skills including database systems, geographic information systems (GIS), land surveying, professional documentation, and public speaking. Through hands-on, community-focused initiatives, participants develop job-ready competencies while gaining deep insights into how coastal environments respond to human pressures and learning effective strategies to reduce ecological damage and promote ecosystem recovery.
