Well-trained, licensed paralegals are essential for ensuring access to justice and meeting the increasing need for cost-effective legal services. Centennial College's Paralegal program equips students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills to thrive in this profession.
This intensive one-year (three-semester) graduate certificate program, accredited by the Law Society of Ontario, qualifies graduates to take the Paralegal licensing exam. Successfully passing this exam allows you to practice as a licensed paralegal in Ontario, representing clients in matters including minor criminal cases, traffic violations, provincial/municipal offenses, tribunal hearings, and Small Claims Court proceedings.
The curriculum provides comprehensive training in Canadian law, focusing specifically on areas where paralegals are authorized to practice. Beyond classroom instruction, the program features practice management training, mock trials, and includes a valuable third-semester placement (two days weekly) at established legal firms. Centennial's hands-on approach not only meets but surpasses Law Society standards, giving students real-world experience and professional networking opportunities to launch their careers successfully.
