The Department of Communication, Popular Culture, and Film provides four distinct academic programs: Business Communication, Media and Communication Studies, Film Studies, and Popular Culture. Students can pursue a four-year BA Honours degree, a four-year BA with Major, or a three-year BA Pass degree in any of these programs. The Department also collaborates with community colleges to enable students to obtain both an honours degree in Popular Culture and a college diploma or certificate.
Popular Culture Studies is an interdisciplinary undergraduate program that integrates theoretical and analytical viewpoints from the humanities and social sciences. These diverse methodologies enhance our comprehension of popular culture as manifested through platforms like social media, advertising, music, mainstream cinema, sports, television, video games, and non-mass-mediated cultural activities such as festivals, culinary traditions, and tourism. We examine these cultural expressions within their historical and contemporary cultural, economic, political, and social frameworks.
