The Power Engineering (General Program) equips students with hands-on experience and technical expertise for entering the power engineering profession. Upon graduation, students are ready to take the government exams for an interprovincial 4th Class Power Engineer's Certificate of Competency. This program trains individuals to oversee, maintain, and manage industrial power and processing facilities across diverse sectors including pulp and paper production, chemical manufacturing, food processing, power generation, oil refining, and institutional mechanical systems. Given the risk of hazardous incidents, power engineers require rigorous training and certification. These professionals are responsible for running and maintaining industrial power plants and processing facilities in industries like paper production, chemical plants, food processing, energy generation, petroleum refining, and institutional mechanical operations. Due to explosion risks, proper certification is mandatory. Provincial laws mandate that plant operators must obtain certification before handling responsibilities involving fired pressure equipment.
