The Sydney Conservatorium of Music prioritizes robust research initiatives, fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment for both faculty and students. The Master of Music (Musicology) program equips students to evolve into self-sufficient scholars within musicology, capable of effectively presenting their discoveries through written and oral formats. Participants can pursue investigations across multiple domains such as musical history, contemporary music analysis, cultural music studies, performance psychology, music theory, and beyond. This research-focused program serves either as a terminal qualification or as preparation for doctoral studies in the field. During their studies, candidates collaborate closely with advisors to refine and complete their thesis. A substantial written dissertation of 25,000 to 40,000 words forms the core requirement. Complementary coursework units help students acquire diverse musicological research techniques and deepen their comprehension of key disciplinary concepts and debates.
