Our dual degree program offers high-achieving school graduates the opportunity to complete a three-year Bachelor of Science followed by a four-year Doctor of Medicine (MD). This pathway provides a stronger foundation in scientific principles, enhancing your preparation for diverse medical careers ranging from specialization to research and education. As a science undergraduate, you'll learn from leading scientific minds, including Australian Academy of Science members, ARC Fellows, and recipients of distinguished awards like the Prime Minister's Prizes for Science and Eureka Prizes. Your studies will take place in state-of-the-art facilities, including the Sydney Nanoscience Hub and the Charles Perkins Centre focused on metabolic diseases. The MD program holds full accreditation from the Australian Medical Council, qualifying graduates for provisional registration across Australia and New Zealand.
This specialization is open to students beyond the Medical Science pathway. It bridges science and medicine, offering foundational knowledge about human health, disease processes, and therapeutic approaches. You'll develop the analytical skills to interpret scientific breakthroughs and implement them in clinical settings. This practical application of medical science is crucial for tackling global health challenges including neurological disorders, metabolic conditions, infectious diseases, and cancer. The curriculum explores how medical theories translate into real-world health solutions, covering disease mechanisms, healthcare data interpretation, and clinical trial methodologies. Your education will unfold within Sydney University's Westmead campus, a dynamic hub for translational medical research and hospital practice.
