The Bachelor of International and Global Studies (Honours) is a rigorous one-year program focused on advanced research. Participants attend specialized seminars and develop an extensive thesis under the guidance of an expert supervisor. While standard degrees offer broad exploration with focused majors, the honours year allows deep engagement with a chosen field through independent research. This program serves as both a foundation for postgraduate work and a crowning achievement of undergraduate studies. For some, it represents the pinnacle of their academic journey, enhancing critical thinking, research skills, and project management abilities. For others, it's the starting point for academic careers.
In the History honours program's fourth year, students undertake two seminars (each contributing 20% to their final grade), producing 6,000-8,000 words per seminar. The 18,000-20,000 word thesis accounts for 60% of the final assessment. This year provides firsthand experience of historical scholarship - seminars explore theoretical and practical challenges in history, while the thesis involves developing and solving significant historical questions through original research.
