You'll tackle contemporary issues while developing skills to contribute to societal and economic progress, or dive into creative expression and innovation. This qualification offers flexibility: it can serve as the foundation for a Bachelor of Arts, allow you to focus on two BA majors, or enable exploration across multiple disciplines. With over twenty potential majors and minors from the Bachelor of Arts plus numerous electives, you can tailor your studies to broaden your expertise and abilities.
Ancient Civilizations studies reveal both the evolving nature of human societies and the enduring connections between them. The curriculum covers mythology, religion, historical narratives, classical literature, and other fascinating areas. This multidisciplinary approach combines ancient historical analysis, literary studies, archaeological evidence, and philosophical investigation. The program starts with overviews of Greek and Roman cultures, teaching techniques for analyzing ancient texts. Intermediate courses develop scholarly approaches and enhance source evaluation skills, while advanced units encourage independent research and critical engagement with modern scholarship. As part of the Classics discipline (alongside Ancient Languages), this major is taught by distinguished scholars and cultivates analytical reasoning, research proficiency, and cultural sensitivity - valuable assets for careers in policy-making, education, organizational management, and humanitarian work where ethical considerations and long-term impacts matter.
