The fourth-year honors program includes an American Studies seminar, another seminar selected from American-focused upper-level courses in English, Film Studies, Government and International Relations, or History, plus an 18,000-20,000 word thesis.
Earning honors in American Studies provides a competitive advantage, allowing you to develop specialized knowledge in a particular field. Your thesis serves as an independent research project that enhances workforce readiness by fostering self-directed study and goal-setting skills, easing the shift to project-oriented careers. First or second-class honors also creates excellent opportunities for pursuing PhD studies.
Past honors students have explored varied topics including the WNBA, political internet memes, Hollywood male friendships, racial influences in fashion, the intersection of religion and US foreign policy, and concepts of American exceptionalism.
