Gain profound insights into Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, and knowledge frameworks by exploring concepts and approaches from diverse fields such as history, anthropology, sociology, literature, linguistics, film studies, and health research. Indigenous Studies fosters critical engagement between these academic disciplines and both traditional and modern Indigenous communities, while examining the social and political narratives of colonization and decolonization.
Our curriculum aligns with current national and global developments in Indigenous Studies, amplifying the diverse perspectives and priorities of Indigenous populations. You'll analyze, discuss, and debate crucial topics affecting Indigenous communities in Australia and worldwide, including language preservation, groundbreaking Indigenous cinema and literature, ongoing health initiatives, and the broader movements for Indigenous self-governance and equity.
These courses are delivered by a combination of Indigenous and non-Indigenous scholars from various university departments, along with community specialists. Offered through the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Indigenous Studies units are accessible to all enrolled students.
