The Greek Studies program enables students to explore Greek language, heritage, history, and political systems from antiquity to modern times. This major fosters analytical insights into how Greek traditions have developed both in their native land and across global communities, including Australia's diverse Greek population. Melbourne's vibrant Greek community creates an immersive setting for applying academic knowledge in real-world contexts. Students can combine language courses at different proficiency levels with cultural studies examining both classical and contemporary Greek arts, historical narratives, and social structures. Graduates gain versatile skills applicable to careers in education, translation, healthcare, finance, hospitality, and other sectors domestically and internationally. The program promotes study abroad opportunities in Greece or Cyprus through exchange initiatives or La Trobe's specialized cultural immersion course. (Note: International programs may be subject to travel limitations.) Students can begin at appropriate levels - Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced (post-VCE), or Extended - based on their existing Greek language proficiency.
