The Bachelor of Arts honours program serves as both a foundation for advanced studies and the crowning achievement of undergraduate education. This intensive year can mark the completion of your formal learning while expanding your intellectual horizons, refining research skills, and enhancing analytical and communication methods. It also develops the personal and professional competencies required to successfully execute a research endeavor. Ideal for undergraduates with a single major, honours can also launch careers in academia or professional research. The program combines seminar coursework with an independent research thesis, guided by a faculty expert in your chosen field.
Within the History honours track, you'll undertake two seminars (each contributing 20% to your final grade), producing 6,000-8,000 words per seminar. The capstone thesis (18,000-20,000 words) represents 60% of your overall assessment.
This immersive year offers a genuine experience of historical scholarship. Through seminars, you'll engage with theoretical and methodological challenges in history, while the thesis allows you to identify significant historical questions and produce original, substantial research.
