The Master of Food Science and Technology Research Extensive program caters to graduates seeking to enhance their technical and laboratory expertise in key food science disciplines, offering deeper hands-on lab experience than the standard three-semester master's program. This extended curriculum also serves as excellent groundwork for pursuing a PhD.
By completing an independent research project, you'll develop advanced technical and investigative abilities while collaborating with university researchers or industry professionals.
You'll have the opportunity to utilize the Food Science Innovation Precinct - a cutting-edge facility for education, research, and development - while customizing your learning path through specialized electives in fields like business, agriculture, and biotechnology.
In your final year, you can participate in a 14-week industry placement, applying classroom knowledge to real-world food industry scenarios, gaining operational insights, and developing professional competencies to boost your career prospects.
To be eligible for entry, you'll need:
a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in food science, food technology or food engineering.
You must have a grade point average (GPA) of 5.0 on a 7-point scale in your previous qualification.
English language requirements
IELTS overall 6.5; reading 6; writing 6; speaking 6; listening 6. For other English Language Proficiency Tests and Scores approved for UQ
TOEFL IBT - Overall 87, listening 19, reading 19, writing 21 and speaking 19.
TOEFL PB - Overall 570, listening 54, reading 54, writing 59/5.
Pearsons - Overall Score of 64 and 60 in all sub bands.
BE - A minimum overall grade of 4 plus a minimum grade of C in all macro skills.
CES - Overall 176 and 169 in all sub bands.
OET is not accepted.
