The Bachelor of Environmental Management (Honours) equips you to tackle contemporary environmental issues at both local and global scales, focusing on core sustainability concerns. This program connects scientific knowledge with management principles, combining essential biophysical sciences with social sciences and interdisciplinary expertise in environmental governance, policy evaluation, and strategic decision-making. At UQ, your environmental management education will establish a strong scientific base while emphasizing socioeconomic perspectives, analytical problem-solving, and policy assessment. During your initial two years, you'll develop comprehensive knowledge of natural sciences. You'll master approaches for addressing intricate environmental challenges by synthesizing biophysical, sociocultural, economic, regulatory, and administrative considerations. In your third year, you'll participate in a two-week fieldwork expedition examining environmental management applications across different settings, along with a professional placement to enhance your practical management competencies. Your final year involves implementing the research, theoretical knowledge, and techniques gained previously to solve multifaceted environmental issues in natural or urban contexts. Throughout your degree, you'll have opportunities for field excursions to various Queensland ecosystems and international destinations such as Indonesia, Vietnam, and Hong Kong.
