Communication and media studies explore how messages are crafted, shared, analyzed, and strategically placed. This field encompasses careers in public relations, news reporting, radio programming, screenwriting for film and TV, as well as digital content creation. We welcome research proposals examining diverse media platforms (broadcast, cinema, television, publications, online) and cross-disciplinary initiatives, particularly those investigating professional and artistic media production processes. At the University of Newcastle, our postgraduate research programs in communication and media provide PhD and Research Masters students with specialized guidance from faculty members who bring real-world industry expertise.

Qualification Requirements
i) have satisfied all of the requirements for admission to the degree of Bachelor with Honours Class 1 or Honours Class II, Division 1 or any other degree approved for this purpose by the Assistant Dean (Research Training); or
ii) have satisfied all the requirements for admission to a degree of Bachelor in the University or another degree approved for this purpose by the Assistant Dean (Research Training) on the recommendation of the relevant School; or
iii) in exceptional cases produce evidence of possessing such other academic or professional qualifications and/or experience as may be approved by the Assistant Dean (Research Training) on the recommendation of the relevant Head of School; or
iv) in the disciplines of education, medical physics, nursing, social work, social sciences and surgery have completed a minimum standard of professional experience as required by the Assistant Dean (Research Training) on the recommendation of the School; and IELTS overall minimum - 6.5, IELTS section minimum - 6.0 , TOEFL IBT 79 R: 19 L: 20 S: 20 Writing 24
