The Master of Laws by Research (LLM Res) program at UNSW Law & Justice equips graduates for careers in specialized legal research and professional fields. This advanced degree provides the expertise required for policy analysis and research positions across legal practice, academic institutions, and various industries. LLM by Research students develop critical research capabilities applicable to careers in academia, legal professions, and policy formulation for government bodies, NGOs, and international organizations. Throughout the program, students complete an original research project that significantly advances knowledge in their selected field. Admission to the Master of Laws by Research program requires completion of a recognised Bachelor of Laws degree with an Honours Class 2 (Division 1) or higher.
The bachelor's degree should have included a substantial research component, or the equivalent.
English Language Requirements:
IELTS: 7.0 overall (min. 6.0 in each subtest); TOEFL IBT (Internet Based): 94 overall (min. 25 in writing, 23 in reading, listening and speaking); Pearson (PTE - Academic): 65 overall (min. 54 in each subtest); C1 Advanced Cambridge: 185 overall (min. 169 in each subtest); C2 Proficiency Cambridge: 185 overall (min. 180 in each subtest); UNSW Global University English Entry Course (UEEC): Successful completion with a minimum overall grade of B and a minimum grade of C in the writing component.
