The Master of Music (Research) is an advanced graduate program that enables students to explore their research capabilities, advance current knowledge in music practice and theory, and potentially achieve expertise in their specialized area. Earning this degree demonstrates the completion of significant original research conducted by the student under expert academic guidance within an established research setting over a defined period. While most specializations allow submission of either a composition portfolio or a combined performance portfolio with accompanying written work, this option excludes Music Psychology, Music Therapy, and Musicology/Ethnomusicology disciplines.

a Bachelor of Music (Honours) degree, or equivalent, with at least an H2A (75%) weighted average;
IELTS total score of at least 6.5 in the Academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS), with no bands less than 6.0.
TOEFL (internet-based): total score at of least 79 and scores of 21 for writing, 18 for speaking, 13 for reading and 13 for listening.
TOEFL (paper-based): total score of at least 577 with a score of 4.5 in the Test of Written English.
