The Biomedicine program offers foundational core courses along with 15 specialized majors, equipping students for diverse healthcare careers. Exclusive second and third-year subjects are designed specifically for Biomedicine students. The integrated second-year curriculum highlights connections across biomedical fields, deepening comprehension of human biology's intricate systems. Third-year courses shift toward clinical applications (Molecules to Malady) or population health perspectives (Frontiers in Biomedicine), synthesizing your entire Biomedicine experience. This undergraduate degree serves as excellent preparation for medical school and healthcare professions. Approximately one-third of graduates enroll in our university's Doctor of Medicine (MD) program, constituting more than half of domestic MD admissions, while others pursue various graduate programs at Melbourne.
The Human Nutrition specialization opens doors to careers in food manufacturing, government agencies, dietetics (with additional certification), secondary education (requiring further qualifications), and advanced nutrition research or health-related studies. This major builds upon fundamental sciences, bridging agricultural science with food production, nutritional content, biochemical interactions, and dietary impacts on individual and community health. The curriculum is designed to facilitate entry into Australian Dietetics Master's programs and eligibility for the Nutrition Society of Australia's Voluntary Register of Nutritionists. Certain first and second-year courses serve as prerequisites for advanced units, while additional agriculture, food science, biochemistry, and physiology electives allow students to tailor their Human Nutrition focus.
