Our Master of Urban Design program provides you with the knowledge and abilities to advance your career as an urban designer, project manager, or planner. Those who complete our Master of Architecture and Urban Design may also explore opportunities in architectural fields.

Urban Design focuses on transforming cityscapes at various levels - from single structures and roadways to districts, communities, and entire metropolitan areas with their surrounding regions. Through an innovative, design-centered curriculum, you'll develop comprehensive understanding of how transportation, society, ecology, economics, and governance intersect to create vibrant, equitable, culturally-rich, and environmentally-conscious spaces we all consider 'home'.

Qualification Requirements

Admission to the Master of Urban Design will require one of the following:

  • successful completion of the Swinburne Bachelor of Design (Architecture) or
  • successful completion of the Swinburne Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) with a major in Architecture or
  • successful completion of the Swinburne Bachelor of Design (Interior Architecture) (Honours) with an advanced minor in Architecture or
  • successful completion of another three year undergraduate architectural course.

English language requirements

Satisfactory completion of one of the following:

  • Swinburne‚Äôs English for Academic Purposes (EAP 5 Advanced level) with overall 70%, all skills 65%
  • minimum IELTS overall band of 6.5 (Academic Module) with no individual band below 6.0
  • Pearson (PTE) minimum score of 58 (no communicative skills less than 50)
  • TOEFL iBT (internet-based) -79 (no less than 13 in reading, 12 in listening, 18 in speaking 21 in writing)
  • C1 Advanced - 176, no band less than 169
  • any other equivalent assessment of English language proficiency.
