The Master of Teaching program at Southern Cross University is an intensive two-year degree that prepares graduates for teaching careers both in Australia and globally. This rewarding career path allows educators to make a lasting impact on children's and adolescents' lives. Students can select from three specialization areas: Early Childhood Education, Primary Education, or Secondary Education. Each specialization has distinct commencement dates and availability. The program features substantial practical training, mandating 480 hours of placements across early childhood centers, schools, or community organizations. Students must fulfill all professional placement criteria, including behavioral standards and prerequisite verifications, as specified in the Faculty of Education's Professional Experience Requirements. Alongside practical training, students complete an educational research project to develop both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Primary and Secondary specialization candidates must pass the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education Students (LANTITE) in their first year, while Early Childhood students are exempt from this requirement. Depending on the chosen specialization, full-time study may extend across all twelve months (six study terms). Applicants for Primary or Secondary specializations must submit an online questionnaire featuring two 500-word essays discussing their teaching motivations, professional suitability, and educational leadership experiences. Important note: Primary and Secondary specializations require previous study in relevant subject areas. Candidates lacking appropriate academic preparation may need to undertake supplementary coursework to meet teaching curriculum standards.
