Medical radiation practitioners are specialized healthcare professionals who utilize radiation technology for diagnostic imaging, therapeutic treatments, functional assessments, and patient care. These highly trained experts focus on delivering patient-centered services across three distinct practice areas: medical imaging, nuclear medicine (exclusively offered by RMIT in Victoria), and radiation therapy. Students select and enroll directly into one of these specialized streams based on their career aspirations in medical radiation sciences.
Nuclear medicine involves administering minute quantities of radioactive substances to generate functional body images that aid in disease diagnosis and management. Typical procedures include cardiac evaluations for heart function assessment, skeletal imaging for orthopedic conditions, and pulmonary scans to detect blood clots.
You must have successfully completed a qualification recognised by RMIT as equivalent to the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) with a minimum average of 65% (see calculator below).
Equivalent qualifications may also include completion of the RMIT Foundation Studies program or a recognised post secondary diploma in the relevant discipline with the required grades.
Meeting the minimum academic requirements does not guarantee entry. Your application will still need to be assessed and accepted.
