Pursue groundbreaking research that expands human understanding by deeply investigating a subject you're passionate about. Earning a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) allows you to thoroughly examine a research topic of your choice. With guidance from an advisor, you'll conduct independent study on a specialized subject and compile your findings into a thesis not exceeding 100,000 words. Your work will constitute a meaningful, novel addition to collective human knowledge. Throughout your PhD journey, you'll cultivate autonomous research capabilities, including the ability to define research problems, acquire specialized conceptual and methodological expertise to solve them, and situate your study within a wider academic context. Crafting your thesis presents exciting chances to collaborate with and learn from leading scholars in your field, while also participating in conferences both nationally and internationally. Research degree programs are available across all Schools at Murdoch, which promotes interdisciplinary studies alongside traditional academic disciplines.
