Monash University's Master of Counselling delivers a professional qualification that blends theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience, equipping you for a fulfilling career in counselling. This program is ideal for professionals from diverse fields including human resources, healthcare, social services, and education. Learn from distinguished academics who bring real-world expertise as practicing counsellors and psychologists. The curriculum covers multiple counselling modalities such as digital and remote counselling, youth counselling, and sessions for individuals, couples, and groups. You'll address ethical challenges in the profession and discover innovative therapeutic methods like play and art therapy. The program also provides comprehensive training in modern cognitive-behavioural therapies. As part of your studies, you'll undertake 250 hours of supervised clinical placement, comprising 140 direct client hours (including individual, couple, family, and group sessions) and 110 indirect hours (for observation, documentation, and professional meetings). This includes 35 hours of clinical supervision counted toward your indirect hours. While the Counselling Placement Team facilitates many placement opportunities, most require formal applications or interviews. Students studying remotely or internationally will need to arrange their own placements with the team's support.
