Situated alongside the nationally prominent Monash University Museum of Art (MUMA), you'll collaborate with leading Australian artists, art theorists, and cultural commentators. Through our Bachelor of Arts program, select from 40 major and minor study areas spanning languages, social sciences, communications, political science, human rights, and international relations to cultivate expert, critical understanding in your chosen disciplines. This program culminates in two distinct degrees. Based on your specialization, you'll receive either: Bachelor of Art History and Curating, or Bachelor of Fine Art and Bachelor of Arts. For the Art History and Curating specialization, you'll deepen your comprehension and valuation of art, including its historical context and cultural importance. You'll acquire practical experience in exhibition development and enhance your curatorial abilities through internship opportunities in professional settings. Gender studies represents a dynamic interdisciplinary field grounded in the understanding that all social systems and institutions reflect gender dimensions. This area of study applies cutting-edge theories and research methods to examine how physical characteristics become gendered, how these relate to global discussions about gender equity, sexual/reproductive health rights, and diverse sexual identities. You'll explore various critical analytical frameworks—feminist and queer theories—that will help develop methodological competencies, including analytical problem-solving.
