This specialized program offers training in art therapy, blending artistic expression with counseling techniques for clinical, therapeutic, or community applications. Art therapy serves as both a treatment modality for developmental, emotional, and psychological issues, and as a wellness strategy for groups facing challenging circumstances.
Develop advanced, integrated skills to work with diverse client populations, grounded in current art therapy theories and evidence-based practices. Function as a competent professional with excellent communication abilities in multidisciplinary teams and various family and community environments

Upon completion, you'll be qualified to work as an art therapist in hospitals, community health initiatives, and rehabilitation facilities. Career opportunities also exist in educational institutions, psychiatric facilities, as well as aged care, palliative, and forensic settings. You'll support individuals with various health challenges, including addiction recovery, eating disorders, and rehabilitation needs.

Qualification Requirements

Successful completion of an Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent).
At least one year of human services work experience such as counselling and/or community work (paid or voluntary).
Prospective students who do not meet the counselling skills requirements for entry into the Master of Art Therapy may pathway through our Introduction to Counselling Skills Course.
Specialisation - compulsory: Fine arts, graphic design, art education, psychology, counselling, social work, occupational therapy or nursing.
Applicants must provide a written application and submit a portfolio demonstrating their skills with a range of visual art media (Compilation of 10-15 photographs of your own original artwork).
Selection criteria
Applicants may be required to attend an interview. Details will be provided by telephone or mail to applicants required to attend. Short listed applicants will be required to attend a scheduled interview.
All applicants must complete and submit a Personal Statement.
Applicants to provide two written references (preferably including one academic and one professional reference).

IELTS (Academic) score of 7.5 with no individual band score less than 7.0 and a score of no less than 8.0 in Speaking and Listening
