This program is ideal for psychiatry registrars, CMOs, psychiatrists, GPs, and other medical professionals pursuing a career in psychotherapy. The curriculum addresses clinicians' training requirements in psychotherapy and trauma-informed approaches.
Designed for psychiatry registrars, CMOs, psychiatrists, GPs, and other medical practitioners aiming to specialize in psychotherapy, this course fulfills clinicians' needs for training in both brief and extended psychotherapy modalities, along with trauma-informed practices across mental health services.
Upon completion, participants will enhance their psychotherapy research capabilities, potentially laying the foundation for advanced academic pursuits like a Master's of Philosophy or Ph.D.
Admission to the Master of Medicine (Advanced) (Trauma-Informed Psychotherapy) requires a medical degree from the University of Sydney or equivalent qualification, and:
a minimum of 12 months’ experience in a clinical area related to mental health
current professional indemnity insurance to practise psychotherapy in Australia; and
satisfactory performance at an interview as required.
IELTS score: A minimum result of 7.0 overall and a minimum result of 6.5 in each band
TOEFL - IBT score: A minimum result of 96 overall including a minimum result of 20 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 22 in Writing
Pearsons Test of English: A minimum result of 68 overall and a minimum result of 61 in each band
