Our Bachelor of Orthoptics (Honours) program emphasizes hands-on clinical training to equip you for a rewarding career as an orthoptist. You'll study eye anatomy and physiology to gain expertise in vision and visual function, while learning to treat conditions like strabismus, ocular diseases, and low vision. Clinical rotations begin in your first year and form a core component of your studies, with placements arranged through our industry partnerships at hospital eye clinics and private practices. These experiences will train you in using advanced diagnostic equipment including retinal imaging systems and ultrasound devices. In your final year, you can pursue placements outside Melbourne through our network of partner clinics in regional Victoria, other Australian states, or internationally. There's also an option to provide care in underserved communities abroad. The program includes either an industry-focused or research-based capstone project to build critical project management and research capabilities for your professional development in orthoptics.
At a minimum, you need to have completed Australian Year 12 (or an accepted international equivalent) with a certain grade. You may also need to meet subject pre-requisites
