The Master of Philosophy program is designed to extend your academic expertise beyond undergraduate honors or postgraduate diploma qualifications, with a research thesis as its final outcome. After earning this research-based master's degree, you become eligible to apply for admission to a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program.
Research-focused graduate degrees stand apart from other postgraduate qualifications by requiring that research constitutes at least two-thirds of the program. While some coursework may be included, your primary focus will be developing a thesis under the mentorship of a supervisor and potential associate supervisors. Examiners must judge your thesis to make a significant, original contribution to any field of knowledge - whether through new discoveries, theoretical developments, or creative reinterpretations of existing information and concepts. Additionally, your work must showcase your ability to independently plan, execute, and conclude a research project.
To be eligible for entry to our research courses, you need to have achieved the following:
IELTS (International English Language Testing System) - Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking - 6.0; Overall band score 6.5; TOEFL Score: 79 (overall); Reading 13; Listening 13; Speaking 18; Writing 21; Pearson Test of English - Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking - 50; Overall band score 58; TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) and PBT (Paper Based Test) - 570 and 4.5 in TWE; C1 Advanced Formerly known as Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) 176 with 169 in Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking.
