This 18-month Master's program is tailored for individuals looking to develop specialized journalism expertise to enhance their existing Bachelor Honours Degree, Graduate Certificate, or Graduate Diploma in another field. The curriculum focuses heavily on hands-on news reporting techniques, with students mastering multimedia journalism production using professional-grade equipment and software. From the initial semester, participants will begin generating content for digital platforms, radio, and television while exploring journalism's vital function in democratic societies. The program incorporates real-world experience through contributions to Curtin's journalism news platform, Western Independent. Students can specialize in specific reporting domains like sports or politics, and will develop self-promotion strategies through an Entrepreneurial Journalism module. Advanced research and interviewing methods taught later in the program enable students to create compelling in-depth journalistic pieces.
