Dietetics focuses on examining the medical dimensions of illnesses where nutrition plays a role in prevention or management. This field combines scientific knowledge and practical skills to deliver therapeutic nutrition plans and public health initiatives tailored to diverse populations with varying economic, social, psychological, and physiological needs.

Throughout this program, you'll explore specialized subjects in clinical nutrition therapy, patient counseling, and food service management, while gaining hands-on experience through placements in hospitals, community centers, aged care facilities, and food service operations. Additionally, you'll conduct an independent research project related to nutrition and dietetics. Career opportunities include working within healthcare teams in hospitals, public health organizations, food service sectors, the food industry, sports organizations, research institutions, and private clinics. Dietitians also contribute their expertise in food service management, industrial food production, research collaborations, and independent practice.

A Bachelor Degree or equivalent (and may require relevant work experience),

Entry is competitive and a high course weighted average (CWA) is required (65% or more).

An equivalent undergraduate degree needs to meet the Dietitians Association of Australia (DAA) requirements for entry to a graduate entry master. These specify that 50% of each of the first and second years of undergraduate study must be composed of bioscience, chemistry, physiology and biochemistry, as outlined in the Manual for Accreditation of Dietetic Education Programs.

You also need to have completed the equivalent of 100 credit points of undergraduate nutrition at second- and third-year level. You are not eligible to enter this program if you have a dietetic qualification that can be considered by the DAA for recognition of overseas skills.
