This course teaches both the scientific principles of nutrition and practical strategies for enhancing population health through better nutrition. You'll also refine essential communication and collaboration abilities.
The first year follows an interprofessional approach, shared with students from other health science disciplines. In year two, you'll select either the Nutrition or Food Science specialization.
Nutrition
This pathway deepens your knowledge of how dietary patterns affect health outcomes.
You'll examine social and cultural factors shaping food choices across communities while completing a nutrition research initiative.
Graduates from the Nutrition specialization fulfill prerequisites for Curtin's Master of Dietetics program.
Australia differentiates between dietitians (requiring postgraduate qualifications) and other nutrition professionals like nutritionists.
Food Science
This concentration emphasizes food chemistry, ingredient interactions during processing, and applying this knowledge to enhance food safety and quality.
The program includes industry excursions and practical experience through external placements.
Students from different countries should have qualifications equivalent to Australian Year 12 and a scaled mark of at least 50 in English, Literature, or English as an Additional Language or Dialect.
