Laboratory medicine covers the study of pathology (understanding diseases' causes, characteristics, and progression) and disease diagnosis.
During your initial year, you'll collaborate with students from various health science fields in an interprofessional setting. The second year deepens your understanding of pathology's cellular and tissue components, along with specialized areas within laboratory medicine.
Your third and fourth years provide hands-on clinical experience while allowing you to specialize in three key disciplines: anatomical pathology, clinical biochemistry, hematology and transfusion science, immunology, or medical microbiology.
Training occurs in Curtin's advanced PC2 laboratory, where you'll handle clinical specimens, identify microorganisms, and generate reports mirroring real-world pathology lab procedures. A 24-week professional placement in a diagnostic pathology lab further enhances your practical skills.
