With over 95 million speakers in Vietnam, Vietnamese serves as the mother tongue for approximately 4 million people living abroad, ranking as Australia's sixth most commonly spoken language. Studying Vietnamese offers students a distinctive opportunity to immerse themselves in Vietnamese-speaking communities while gaining profound insights into its vibrant culture, welcoming population, and dynamic society.
The ANU's Vietnamese language program provides students not just with linguistic proficiency but also cultural knowledge essential for interacting with one of Asia's most rapidly developing economies. Opting for Vietnamese as a major can create pathways for students to discover emerging opportunities in Vietnam, conduct research on this fast-changing nation, and foster relationships between both countries as well as connections with Vietnamese communities across Australia and globally.
