With over 95 million speakers in Vietnam, Vietnamese serves as the primary language for approximately 4 million individuals living abroad, ranking as the sixth most commonly spoken language in Australia. Studying Vietnamese offers students a distinctive opportunity to immerse themselves in Vietnamese-speaking communities while gaining profound insights into its vibrant culture, hospitable people, and dynamic society.
The Vietnamese language program at ANU provides students not just with linguistic proficiency but also cultural awareness essential for interacting with one of Asia's most rapidly developing economies. Opting for Vietnamese as a major can create pathways for students to discover emerging opportunities in Vietnam, conduct research on this evolving nation, and foster relationships between both countries as well as connections with Vietnamese communities across Australia and globally.
