This program provides comprehensive knowledge of student affairs and college counseling, covering historical perspectives, research, developmental theories, legal/ethical considerations, diversity topics, contemporary challenges, leadership principles, and evaluation methods in higher education. Through hands-on learning experiences including practicums and internships at institutions in Northeast Ohio or Western Pennsylvania, you'll bridge classroom concepts with professional practice. Alumni of the Counseling and Student Affairs program secure positions at colleges nationwide, with recent graduates working as academic advisors, career counselors, international student recruiters, housing administrators, student life directors, and faculty members.

Qualification Requirements
Students from a variety of undergraduate majors (i.e. psychology, social work, education, communication, sociology, religion, philosophy, business, general studies, etc.) may pursue a master's degree in counseling. Undergraduate and/or graduate grade point average, a letter of intent, letters of recommendation, and a required interview are important factors in determining the admissibility of an applicant to the counseling degree program. Applicants will be interviewed by members of the Counseling Admissions Committee and must meet the standards prescribed in the counseling program's admission policies. The following are the admission requirements:
Applicants must have earned above a 2.7 grade-point average. (If an applicant's GPA is slightly below the minimum required, an applicant may include a GRE or MAT score to have their application reviewed.)
A bachelor's degree from a college or university certified by a regional accrediting agency approved by the U.S. Department of Education. A bachelor's degree from non-regionally accredited institutions may be considered acceptable for admission. These are reviewed by the Admission and Appeals Committee.
Cumulative grade-point average in undergraduate work of at least 2.7 on a 4.0 scale (Some programs require higher GPAs.)
Official transcripts of all undergraduate or graduate work completed
