The Addiction Counseling program equips you for careers in diverse environments including rehabilitation facilities, mental health clinics, medical institutions, workplace support initiatives, and independent counseling practices. This curriculum covers every aspect of addiction, from substance abuse to gambling, sexual compulsions, and other behavioral dependencies. Additionally, you'll gain expertise in assessing and addressing psychological conditions through multiple therapeutic approaches. Upon graduation, you'll fulfill the academic prerequisites for obtaining Professional Counselor and Professional Clinical Counselor credentials from Ohio's licensing board for counselors, social workers, and family therapists.

Qualification Requirements

Students from a variety of undergraduate majors (i.e. psychology, social work, education, communication, sociology, religion, philosophy, business, general studies, etc.) may pursue a master's degree in counseling. Undergraduate and/or graduate grade point average, a letter of intent, letters of recommendation, and a required interview are important factors in determining the admissibility of an applicant to the counseling degree program. Applicants will be interviewed by members of the Counseling Admissions Committee and must meet the standards prescribed in the counseling program's admission policies. The following are the admission requirements:
Applicants must have earned above a 2.7 grade-point average. (If an applicant's GPA is slightly below the minimum required, an applicant may include a GRE or MAT score to have their application reviewed.)
A bachelor's degree from a college or university certified by a regional accrediting agency approved by the U.S. Department of Education. A bachelor's degree from non-regionally accredited institutions may be considered acceptable for admission. These are reviewed by the Admission and Appeals Committee.
Cumulative grade-point average in undergraduate work of at least 2.7 on a 4.0 scale (Some programs require higher GPAs.)
Official transcripts of all undergraduate or graduate work completed
