This program focuses on teaching primarily theoretical concepts that students will later apply within the School Psychology curriculum. Participants will explore various counseling techniques and approaches to assist students in overcoming challenges they may encounter during school hours. The initial year involves 180 practicum hours, offering hands-on experience with both common and rare disabilities. After meeting these requirements, graduates will earn their Master of Education in Intervention Services degree and progress to the EdS program. The curriculum is thorough, cohesive, and structured progressively, aligning with school psychology standards established by the State of Ohio, NASP, and CAEP. Course content incorporates the latest developments in school psychology and education. Furthermore, the program places special emphasis on rare disabilities. Qualification Requirements

The Youngstown State University school psychology program is a cohort-based program and will accept students on a full-time time basis. The first year of the program commences during the summer. The requirements for applying to the YSU School Psychology program are:

A baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited university or college
Minimum undergraduate cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale
Graduate Record Examination (GRE) results (Verbal and Quantitative, Analytical Writing), only if candidate's undergraduate G.P.A. falls below a 3.0.

For Graduate Admissions, please have the testing agency send official test scores directly to YSU if they are required for your program of interest (GRE, GMAT, MAT, TOEFL, IELTS, etc.). The institution code is 1975. Unofficial test scores cannot be used for admission purposes. TOEFL scoreA minimum score of 550 on the paper-based test, 213 on the computer-based test, or 79-80 on the Internet-based (IBT) Test of English as a Foreign Language by graduates of foreign universities who are nonnative English speakers. (Scores over two years old by the beginning of the term applicants wish to enter are not acceptable.) Arrange with the Educational Testing Service to have your official TOEFL score sent to our office. Those students with below a 2.7 cumulative undergraduate GPA (Grade Point Average) will be asked to take the GRE or the MAT (Miller Analogies Test) per our Graduate School policy unless their program of interest has an alternative testing/GPA requirement. The College of Graduate Studies will accept the academic version of the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) as an alternative to the TOEFL exam for international students (A score of 6.5 on the IELTS test equates to a 550 on the paper-based TOEFL).
