Youngstown State University's Aging Studies Graduate certificate stands out as one of its most recent academic offerings. This program takes a unique interdisciplinary approach, concentrating on social epidemiology and aging, setting it apart from similar programs in Ohio and placing it among a select few nationwide. Through courses integrating psychology, political science, social work, and human ecology, the certificate provides comprehensive training in understanding aging through multiple lenses.

Students explore health issues affecting older adults, analyzing disease risk factors prevalent in aging populations. The curriculum also investigates how demographic characteristics like gender, race, and socioeconomic status intersect with health outcomes in elderly communities.

The institution code is 1975. Unofficial test scores cannot be used for admission purposes. TOEFL scoreA minimum score of 550 on the paper-based test, 213 on the computer-based test, or 79-80 on the Internet-based (IBT) Test of English as a Foreign Language by graduates of foreign universities who are nonnative English speakers. (Scores over two years old by the beginning of the term applicants wish to enter are not acceptable.) Arrange with the Educational Testing Service to have your official TOEFL score sent to our office. Those students with below a 2.7 cumulative undergraduate GPA (Grade Point Average) will be asked to take the GRE or the MAT (Miller Analogies Test) per our Graduate School policy unless their program of interest has an alternative testing/GPA requirement. The College of Graduate Studies will accept the academic version of the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) as an alternative to the TOEFL exam for international students (A score of 6.5 on the IELTS test equates to a 550 on the paper-based TOEFL).
