Students in the CCET BSAS program excel at planning, designing, inspecting, and overseeing the construction of various projects, including buildings, roads, dams, bridges, airports, and wastewater treatment plants. They are also skilled in conducting economic analyses, choosing suitable construction and engineering materials, and applying construction law and ethical principles. Graduates with a BSAS degree find employment as engineers or engineering designers in government agencies, consulting firms, contracting companies, project management roles, and as production or maintenance managers and supervisors. In many states, such as Ohio, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania, graduates are eligible to take the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and, after gaining adequate work experience, the Professional Engineers (PE) exam. They also meet the qualifications to apply for certification with the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET).
Applicants must have graduated from high school or have successfully completed the General Education Development (GED) test to be considered for admission. Freshman applicants applying for admission to Youngstown State University must submit a high school transcript and American College Test (ACT) or Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) scores.
