The master's program equips students with specialized expertise and research skills to excel as clinician-scholars in their chosen fields. Advanced practice nurses are dedicated professionals who deliver exceptional clinical services while actively influencing future healthcare systems through accountability and leadership. The School's curriculum prepares graduates for diverse leadership positions. YSN's pioneering faculty have revolutionized nursing: Founding dean Annie Goodrich framed nursing as an ethical pursuit driving social progress. Second dean Effie Taylor pioneered mental healthcare as the inaugural professor of psychiatric nursing. Judith Krauss, psychiatric nursing professor and seventh dean, reshaped mental health policy by championing parity legislation now in effect. Virginia Henderson redefined nursing's distinct role globally - her framework remains the World Health Organization's official definition. She also championed universal healthcare access and expanded nursing responsibilities in primary care.
