Our Engineering curriculum establishes a robust, comprehensive foundation in relevant sciences, consistently advancing cutting-edge technologies through an interdisciplinary and adaptable approach. Graduate candidates craft personalized academic and research paths in collaboration with faculty members. Students design their study plans with guidance from faculty advisors (the student's advisory committee). A requirement of ten term courses must be fulfilled within the initial two years. Qualified students can request course exemptions based on prior graduate-level coursework. Additionally, students may test out of specific ENAS courses through exams administered by instructors, though this won't decrease the total course requirement. Department-specified core courses should typically be completed in the first year unless otherwise directed. With approval from the departmental Director of Graduate Studies (DGS), students may replace core courses with more advanced alternatives covering equivalent material. A maximum of two Special Investigations courses is permitted, with at least two courses required outside the dissertation's focus area. All students must complete the Responsible Conduct of Research course during their first year. Details about ENAS graduate courses are available at https://courses.yale.edu/.
