The guitar curriculum provides training across multiple disciplines, where students receive private lessons, join weekly studio workshops, collaborate with visiting artists, and present both solo and ensemble pieces. The weekly seminar features showcases of recently mastered solo and chamber works, along with discussions covering interpretation, arrangement, technical skills, teaching methods, master-class instruction, concert planning, stage performance, sight-reading, competitions, studio recording, and professional growth. Every term, participants form duos or small ensembles and present their collaborative work in a public recital. Musical selections are chosen jointly by students and Professor Benjamin Verdery. Annually, participants must compose an étude and an arrangement while also delivering an academic presentation. Each semester includes a master class led by a distinguished guest artist. Prior to graduation, all guitar majors are required to perform a 20-minute educational concert for New Haven Public Schools.
