The Yale School of Music's double bass program helps students enhance their technical skills and artistic expression within a supportive, innovative setting while deepening their knowledge of the instrument's physical demands. Bassists receive individual instruction and join regular studio workshops addressing diverse subjects such as solo recitals, orchestra audition strategies, advanced playing methods, and student-selected exploration topics. Every bass student engages in chamber music, a cornerstone of Yale's musical training. Additionally, they perform in multiple ensembles through New Music New Haven concerts and the Yale Philharmonia orchestra, gaining exposure to extensive repertoire under renowned visiting conductors.
