The guitar program provides training across multiple disciplines, where students receive private lessons, join weekly studio seminars, collaborate with visiting artists, and showcase both solo and ensemble pieces. The weekly seminar features performances of fresh solo and chamber works, along with discussions covering interpretation, arrangement, technical skills, teaching methods, master-class instruction, concert planning, stage performance, sight-reading, competitions, studio recording, and professional growth. Every semester, participants form duos or small ensembles and present their chamber works in public performances. Students and Professor Benjamin Verdery jointly select the repertoire. Annually, participants must compose an étude and an arrangement, plus deliver a lecture. Each term includes a master class led by a guest artist. Prior to graduation, all guitar majors are required to perform a 20-minute educational concert for New Haven Public Schools.
