The program's foundation lies in exploring painting as a distinct discipline with its own intricate language and historical context. This environment fosters varied artistic approaches, creative breakthroughs, and bold experimentation. Each year, the program accepts around twenty-one students. Central to the learning experience are one-on-one and group critiques involving faculty, guest critics, and visiting artists. Students also engage in numerous seminars led by both professors and critics. Printmaking studies are incorporated into the painting curriculum, allowing students to specialize in painting, printmaking, or a blend of both. Participants create in private 300-square-foot studios located at 353 Crown Street near Green Hall. The Crown Street facility offers a printmaking workshop complete with two etching presses, a lithography press, a fully stocked silkscreen area, plus digital tools available in the print studio, across the School, and at the Center for Collaborative Arts and Media.
