The Directing program welcomes gifted and dedicated artists showing promise to excel as professional directors. Annually, three candidates are selected based on their artistic vision and collaborative leadership skills. These individuals arrive with diverse perspectives yet share essential traits: they're creative thinkers and project initiators with vibrant imaginations. They embrace challenging inquiries and possess an earnest fascination with cultures beyond their own. Willing to venture into the unknown, they acknowledge the ideological and social impact of their craft. Most importantly, they value their peers and actively foster a nurturing learning environment at David Geffen School of Drama. We aim to cultivate directors whose future creations will enhance empathy and insight through theater's distinctive fusion of visuals, movement, and language. Alumni make meaningful contributions globally as leaders in theater, opera, television, and film—establishing companies, steering arts institutions, and shaping arts education.
