Yale University's Department of Religious Studies has educated numerous cohorts of scholarly leaders who now work both within academia and beyond. The graduate program offers ten specialized Fields of Study, each with distinct admission criteria and course requirements. Prospective students must indicate their chosen field when submitting their online application. Those whose research interests span multiple fields should contact the relevant faculty members via email before applying to discuss application strategies. Detailed information about each Field of Study, including admission prerequisites and curriculum specifics, can be accessed by selecting the corresponding field. Across all disciplines, RLST 510 - Method and Theory stands as the sole mandatory course. While students may complete this requirement at any point during their Yale tenure, faculty strongly advise taking it during the first year. This foundational course fosters in-depth scholarly dialogue about religion among students with varied academic backgrounds and research focuses.
Applicants must have completed your undergraduate degree (bachelor's or equivalent) or will have completed it prior to your intended matriculation date at Yale.
