The Classics and Philosophy Program is a joint PhD initiative, collaboratively run by Yale's Philosophy and Classics Departments, designed for graduate students focusing on ancient Greek and Roman philosophy. Qualified candidates can apply through either the Classics Department for the Classics Track or the Philosophy Department for the Philosophy Track, with specifics outlined below. Prospective students are highly advised to include a writing sample addressing ancient philosophy topics. Those applying for the Classics Track must meet both the general admission criteria for the Classical Philology Graduate Program and the specific requirements of the Joint Program's Classics Track. An Interdepartmental Committee, including Professors David Charles, Verity Harte, and Brad Inwood, along with the Directors of Graduate Studies for both Classics and Philosophy, supervises the Program.
