The Master of Arts in Religion (M.A.R.) degree signifies either the fulfillment of an extensive curriculum preparing students for various ministerial or service roles, or the completion of specialized advanced study programs outlined below. To earn the M.A.R., students must complete forty-eight credit hours and maintain a two-year residency (defined as enrollment in at least one three-credit on-campus course meeting regularly throughout the term), with these important notes: Students with significant external commitments are encouraged to take a lighter course load, though the entire M.A.R. program must be completed within four years. Financial aid is not provided for coursework exceeding degree requirements.
The two-year residency may be shortened if transfer credits are applied, up to a maximum of twelve hours. To graduate with the M.A.R., transfer students must complete at least three terms of residency at YDS, including their final term. Students pursuing both the M.A.R. and M.Div. degrees must complete four full academic years to receive both credentials.
