The Yale School of Music's violin program takes a personalized approach, with instructors guiding students to develop self-teaching skills through initial instruction and later through cultivating self-evaluation abilities. The program fosters a cooperative atmosphere where violinists mutually encourage each other's growth. Three distinct violin studios operate with about a dozen students each. Studio seminars held weekly cover diverse subjects, addressing technical aspects like vibrato technique and bow control, as well as exploring leadership in chamber music and effective time management for rigorous practice schedules. In addition to primary instructor lessons, students have opportunities to perform for other faculty members.
